Why DHUND , ABBASIs are SUPERIOR as far as I saw it historically and personally ———MAJOR A H AMIN (RETIRED) GROUP FOUNDER REGIMENTAL HISTORY GROUP

THIS SCRIBE WAS INSPIRED TO WRITE THIS NOTE WHILE REMINDED BY THE SOCIAL MEDIA FORUM THAT IT IS BIRTHDAY OF OUR DEAREST GROUP MEMBER MOST RESPECTED SIR HAIDER MAJEED 22 PUNJAB — This note is titled ——Uncle Raja Ikram Azam - Major Zohrab- Tommy Massaud Khan Abbasi down to dearest Sir HAIDER MAJID 22 PUNJAB - —————————————————————-——this narrative is based on personal associations as well as a study of history . I was very familiar with the word ABBASI and DHUND since earliest times -(1)  Uncle Raja Ikram Azam was my fathers dearest friend and class fellow from Gordon College Rawalpindi - we knew him intimately as children - I was particularly inspired by the voluminous books uncle raja Ikram used to author and all copies were always presented to my father - Many of these dealt with military history of India Pakistan wars (2) my second impression was exploits of brigadier Tommy Massaud Khan ABBASI as recounted by his relative ex brigadier sadiq khan satti MC , first to defy Pakistan’s intellectually dishonest incompetent and at least constitutionally and intellectually corrupt politicians in 1951 -on joining 11 cavalry I heard more stories about this great hero Tommy massaud khan who had no chance in AYUBIAN Pakistan army where foremost quality for promotion was INTELLECTUAL SUCKING AND SPINELESS NESS- Pakistan army lost its finest potential war commander when Tommy massaud khan was retired as a brigadier (3) my third major encounter and the most formative was with one Major Zohrab ABBASI of 15 SP totally unknown to me and member of a court of inquiry on charges of disobedience of my co and brigade commander on 9th and 10th august 1984 - naturally the whole 8 indep armoured brigade of Bara pind fame or infamy was pitched against me and I was attached with 15 SP a brigade unit— WHICH TO MY ABSOLUTE SURPRISE WAS commanded by an officer COL AFSAR GULJI (Amritsar) WHO WENT OUT OF THE WAY TO WELCOME AND SUPPORT ME AND I STILL REGARD 15 SP AS THE BEST UNIT OF PAKISTAN ARMY AS I SAW IT IN 1984 WHEN I WAS ATTACHED WITH IT -  (4) in this grim scenario two surprises appeared which were unknown to the brigade commander - the ASC officer appointed as president of court of inquiry one COL HAIDAR ALI DURRANI had served under my father and at that time not known to me deeply idolised and loved my father as a military commander - DURRANI who was quite a RIGID and inflexible man when it came to defying his seniors told me on the first day - that he would support me even if it means hazarding war with all forces of kharian cantt and 1 Corps - the second major surprise was major Zohrab ABBASI who even crossed all and throughout supported my stand - finally nothing happened - my CO was posted out and I was left with a reprimand - but the memory of ABBASIS remained - a superior clan at least as I see it - note that in 1857 also the only clan to defy the British company in Punjab and frontier was ABBASIS and kharrals- my last encounter with ABBASIs was when I interviewed brigadier taj ABBASI SJ and BAR while working as assistant editor defence journal - Brig Taj made a very deep personal impression on this humble scribe
